How to Install a Motorized Curtain Track: Easy DIY Setup

Transform your space with the touch of a button! Motorized curtain tracks offer a blend of luxury, convenience, and modern technology, allowing you to control your window treatments with ease. If you've recently purchased a Jason motorized curtain track, this guide will walk you through the installation process step-by-step. Whether you're a seasoned DIY enthusiast or a first-timer, you'll find everything you need to know to get your new electric curtain rod up and running smoothly.

Part 1: Unboxing and Pre-Installation Check

Before you begin, it's essential to make sure you have all the necessary components. A little preparation now will ensure a seamless installation process.

Unboxing & Preparation

Open your package and take a moment to identify each part. Your Jason motorized curtain track kit should include:

  • Motor: The powerhouse of your new automated curtain system.
  • Emitter (Remote Control): Your key to effortless control.
  • Power Cord: To connect your motor to a power source.
  • Tracks & Runners: The foundation of your curtain rod, designed for a smooth glide.
  • Mounting Accessories: All the brackets, screws, and hardware needed for a secure installation.
  • Installation Instruction Manual: A handy reference to keep by your side.

A Quick Note on Batteries: You will need to purchase a CR2032 battery for the emitter. These are readily available at most stores.

Open your package and take a moment to identify each part. Your Jason motorized curtain track kit should include these tools.

Assemble the Track

1. If your track arrived in multiple sections, you'll need to connect them first.

  • Lay Out: Place the track sections on a flat, clean floor, ensuring the runner channels are aligned.
  • Find the Connector: Locate the small metal connector plate and the set screws.
  • Connect: Slide the connector halfway into the channel of one track section. Then, carefully align and slide the second track section onto the other half of the connector until the two track pieces meet seamlessly.
  • Secure Firmly: Use the Allen key to firmly tighten the set screws on the connector. This is vital for a smooth glide, so ensure there is no gap or misalignment between the sections.

2. Attach the Motor: Press the locking button on the motor, align it with the track's drive unit, and slide it into place until it clicks securely.

3. Power Up and Pair the Remote:

  • Plug the motor into a power outlet.
  • Insert the CR2032 battery into the remote emitter.
  • Press the pairing button on the motor (a red light will typically appear or flash). Immediately after, press your desired channel button on the remote to pair them.

4. Final Ground Test: Use the remote's open and close buttons to run the runners back and forth along the entire length of the track. Confirm that they move smoothly without snagging, especially over the connection point. Once this is confirmed, unplug the motor.

Part 2: Installing Your Motorized Curtain Track

Now that you've confirmed everything is in working order, it's time to install your new curtain track system. The process will vary slightly depending on whether you have a top-mounted single-opening or a side-mounted center-opening system.

For a Top-Mounted Single-Opening Curtain Track:

This setup is ideal for a clean, ceiling-mounted look, with a single curtain panel drawing to one side.

  1. Attach Hardware: Begin by installing the return hook and the ceiling-mount brackets onto the curtain track.
  2. Mark Your Placement: Hold the track up to the ceiling where you intend to install it. Use a pencil to mark the locations for the drill holes through the bracket openings.
  3. Drill and Mount: Drill the marked holes and then securely fasten the track to the ceiling using the provided screws.

For a Side-Mounted Center-Opening Curtain Rod:

Perfect for a classic, elegant look with two curtain panels parting in the middle, this wall-mounted option is a popular choice.

  1. Prepare the Brackets: Separate the ceiling-mounted portion of the bracket from the wall-mounted portion.
  2. Mark and Drill: Position the wall-mounted brackets on the wall at your desired height. Mark the drill holes, drill, and then securely install the wall brackets.
  3. Assemble and Mount: Attach the ceiling-mounted part of the brackets to the curtain track. Then, connect the two bracket components, effectively mounting the track to the wall.
  4. Final Touches: Install the return hook onto the track.

Part 3: Hanging Your Curtains and Finalizing the Setup

This is the final step, where the process differs based on your curtain style.

For Ripple Fold Curtains:

  1. Snap them on: Starting from the side hook, carefully attach your curtain panel's snaps to the corresponding runners.
  2. Style the "S" Fold: Once hung, "train" the curtain by gently guiding the fabric into uniform, S-shaped waves from top to bottom.

For Pleat Curtains:

  1. Hook them in: Take the pin hooks at the top of your pleat curtain and insert them into the small eyelets on the bottom of each runner on the track.
  2. Arrange the Pleats: After hanging, adjust the fabric so the pleats are distributed evenly for a clean, classic look.

Congratulations! You've successfully installed your Jason motorized curtain track. Now you can enjoy the convenience and sophistication of automated window treatments, adding a touch of modern luxury to your home.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can I order a spare power cord? A: Yes, a spare cord can be included if you request it when you initially order your track. However, they are not sold separately at this time.

Q: Are longer power cords (e.g., longer than 30 inches) available? A: No. Custom-length cords are not available for single orders, as they require a large bulk order from the manufacturer.

Q: If the motor fails under warranty, is it easy to replace myself? A: Absolutely. The motor is designed for easy replacement. We can ship a new motor to you, and you can swap it out without having to take down the entire track.

Q: Can I choose which side of the track the motor is on? A: Yes. The motor can be mounted on either the left or right end of the track, giving you flexibility for your power source location. One motor is all you need to operate the entire track, for both single and center-opening curtains.

Q: Are other track colors available besides white? A: Currently, only white is available. Custom colors require a large-volume order and are not offered for individual sales.

Q: What happens if the power goes out? Can I still operate the curtains? A: Yes, you can. The system has multiple modes of operation:
Remote Control: Standard operation.
Smart Home: Use the Tuya app, which can connect to Alexa for voice control.
Manual Activation: If you gently pull the curtain fabric, the motor will sense the movement and take over, completing the open or close cycle.
During Power Outage: The motor will be inactive, but you can freely open and close the curtains by hand just like a non-motorized track.

Q: I have wiring ready in my wall but no outlet. Can I hardwire the motor? A:
Yes, the motor can be hardwired. You can remove the plug and connect the power cord directly to your home's AC wiring.
The power conversion happens inside the motor itself, not in the plug.
Here are the power specifications for reference:
For Standard AC Hardwiring:
The motor accepts a standard household voltage of 100-240V AC.
The input current draw is 0.15A.
For Advanced Low-Voltage Setups:
If you plan to use an external low-voltage DC power supply instead of AC power, that power supply must provide a 3A output to meet the motor's requirements.
