FAQ
What are solar roller shades?
These open-weave screen coverings filter sunlight, reduce glare and UV exposure, and preserve some outward visibility. Solar refers to sun control, not solar-powered operation.
What does openness percentage mean?
Openness is the proportion of open space in the weave. Lower percentages indicate tighter screening, generally with less view-through. It is not the same as a light-blocking or UV-blocking rating.
Do solar shades provide nighttime privacy?
Not reliably. With indoor lights on and darker conditions outside, visibility into the room can increase. Add opaque curtains or another covering where nighttime privacy is important.
How do I measure for roller shades?
Choose your mounting style first, then follow the specific product’s measuring guide for width and length. Do not add or subtract measurements unless that guide directs you to.
Are cordless and motorized controls available?
These selected designs list cordless and motorized lift options. Check your product for current size limits, controls, power requirements, and any smart-home compatibility.
Custom Solar Roller Shades for Glare Control and Views
Make sunny windows more comfortable without an opaque blackout fabric. Solar roller shades use an open-weave screen to filter sunlight while retaining some outward visibility.
Explore Nathan’s 5% openness fabric and Leo’s 1%, 3%, and 5% options. Lower openness indicates a tighter weave, generally offering stronger screening with a more restricted view. Color and lighting affect the result.
Both designs use polyester-PVC blends. Check each product’s specifications: openness is not a light-blocking or UV-blocking percentage. Solar describes sun control, not solar-powered operation.
Customize width and length and compare cordless or motorized controls. Solar fabric is not blackout and does not reliably provide nighttime privacy. Layer with an opaque covering when you need stronger privacy after dark.
Solar shades are a type of roller shade, the difference is the fabric. Compare solar screen vs light-filtering vs blackout roller shades on view, privacy & UV.
