*For Roman shades, we recommend a minimum window depth of 2 inches to ensure the entire shade fits within the window frame. However, since the mounting brackets for Roman shades are relatively small in size, if you don’t mind a portion of the shade extending beyond the frame, a minimum depth of 1 1/4 inches is acceptable.

*Please note that an inside mount is designed to ensure the roller shade fits within the window frame. As a result, there may be approximately 1/4" light gaps on each side. If you’re concerned about light leakage, we recommend choosing an outside mount.

For other types of shades, like bamboo shades and roller shades, the headrail size changes and will have its own frame depth requirement.

Our Motorized Shades come with a remote control as standard. The number of remotes provided will correspond to the number of rooms in your order. Before shipment, we’ll pre-program each remote so it can control all motorized shades in a single room.

1. Single shade, just install the battery and you're ready to use, the shade and the remote are ready matched。
2. Several shades, install the battery, and adjust the remote channel with the number on the shade's top tag.

If you use a smart speaker such as Alexa or HomePod, our motorized shades can be connected directly for voice control.

Typically, all motorized shades in one room are grouped under a single remote. Based on the number of shades, we’ll select a remote with the appropriate number of channels. Our remotes can support up to 15 channels, allowing control of up to 15 individual shades.

You can operate all shades simultaneously or select an individual channel to control a specific shade on its own.

All our remotes use Radio Frequency (RF) technology, which means they work through walls and don’t require line-of-sight.

  • Width Measurement: Measure the inside width of your window sash at the top, middle, and sill, as marked in the picture. Take the smallest measurement and deduct about 3/8" to ensure the roller shade fits inside the window frame.

    With an inside mount, there may be approximately 1/4" light gaps on each side between the shade and the window frame.

    If light leakage is a concern, consider choosing an outside mount and increasing the width for better coverage.

  • Length Measurement: Measure the inside height from your top sash at left, center, or right. Use the longest as your length.

For other types of shades, like bamboo shades and roller shades, the headrail size changes and will have its own frame depth requirement.

  • Width Measurement: Measure the outside width of your window casing at the top, middle, and sill as shown. Take its largest and add 1-3 inches(recommended, 1/2-1 1/2" each side) for ultra light control and privacy. If you have any questions, please email support@curtarra.com.
  • Length Measurement: Measure your desired height and record it. We recommend adding at least 4-6 inches to allow window exposure when you roll the shades up.

*If you prefer maximum exposure when shades are fully rolled up, please mount them 4" above the top of the outside casing. And add at least 2 inches above the top frame for the headrail.

    Tips About Mount Types

    • Inside Mount:

      • The window frame depth is 2" at least for cordless/no-drill bamboo/woven wood shades.

    • Outside Mount:

      • For cordless bamboo/woven wood shades, the height should measure at least 2" above the frame.

      Outside mount will go with 2 side covers made from the same fabric to cover the wood part of the headrail.
